Condos for Sale in 5 de Diciembre

In Puerto Vallarta, everybody knows 'Cinco,' but not everyone knows why 5 de Diciembre carries that name. It isn't random: it honors a key date in Vallarta's history, when the lands were formally granted to the Ejido Puerto Vallarta and stopped being controlled by companies and big landowners, becoming property of the local people instead. That shift in land ownership is what allowed the neighborhood to grow as a true working-class barrio, built by and for Vallartenses.

Back then, what we now call 5 de Diciembre started filling up with simple houses, steep streets, and everyday life: fishermen, dock workers, and storekeepers who lived between the ocean and the Sierra Madre. Long before luxury condos and boutique hotels arrived, this was a neighborhood that smelled like fresh tortillas, fried fish, and laundry drying in the sun.

Geographically, 5 de Diciembre is a little universe of its own. To the south, it brushes up against the Malecón and downtown; to the north, the hotel zone begins. Below, you have Playa Camarones, the neighborhood's 'local' beach. Above, the streets climb the hillside, rewarding every extra step with wider and wider views over the bay. One of its most symbolic places is the Panteón 5 de Diciembre, inaugurated in 1951.

Today, strolling through 5 de Diciembre means watching old and new constantly overlap: corner mom-and-pop shops next to specialty coffee houses, traditional seafood markets next to modern developments, bakeries waking up at 6 a.m., and real-estate projects betting on the neighborhood's authentic character.
