Puerto Vallarta's Hotel Zone was born in the 1970s when the Mexican government decided to develop a coastal strip north of the historic center to accommodate growing tourist demand. Before the large hotels, this was an area of virgin beaches and local fishermen.

The first international chain hotels established here, forever transforming the coastal landscape. Sheraton, Fiesta Americana, Krystal, and other hotel giants built their properties facing the ocean, creating the 'beach hotel' concept that would define Vallarta tourism for decades.
